Wild West Pioneers platforms: every one at a glance

Wild West Pioneers runs on Windows PC and nothing else. You can buy it on Steam now; GOG and the Epic Games Store list it too but were not selling it yet when Steam opened. It is a single-player game, and no console, Mac or phone version has been announced. The table gives each platform a plain status and the reason for it, in the publisher’s own words wherever it said any.

Steam sells the Windows build now; GOG and Epic list the same Windows version. Which one suits you is covered on Steam, GOG or Epic, and whether your PC is up to it is on the system requirements page.

Does it run on the Steam Deck?

Yes, with caveats. Valve rates it Playable, the middle of its three grades, and its test notes say the interface text is small, the default controller setup is not fully functional, the on-screen button glyphs do not match the Deck, text boxes do not open the keyboard by themselves, and the default settings do not run smoothly. (See Valve's Steam Deck compatibility report for the game) Steam lists a Windows build only, so the Deck runs it through Proton, Valve’s compatibility layer.

Input is the bigger question. A Deck is a controller with a screen, and when a player asked for native controller support on the Steam forum, a Toplitz community manager answered:

“Currently not, but possible for the future”

(Replied in Steam discussions: publisher reply on controller support) Until that changes, playing on a Deck means living with the default touchpad mapping or tuning your own layout in Steam Input.

Where does GeForce NOW fit?

It might be the way round all of this. Wild West Pioneers is listed in a GeForce NOW weekly update post on Reddit, as a new release on Steam. (Listed in r/GeForceNOW: the weekly GFN Thursday update post) That post is a community copy of NVIDIA’s list rather than word from the publisher, so check the GeForce NOW app for the game before you count on it. Note that the entry names the Steam version, so a GOG or Epic copy may not be the one it streams. If it is there, streaming is how a Mac, a phone or a weak laptop gets the Windows build on screen.

So is it coming to PlayStation, Xbox or Switch?

Nothing says so. No console version has been announced, and none of the three console stores has a page for the game. The Early Access plan on Steam is about adding content to the PC game rather than adding machines. (Set out in Steam announcement: Our Early Access Roadmap) Each console has its own page with its store check and what would change the answer: PS5 and PS4, Xbox and Game Pass and Nintendo Switch. Mac, Linux and phones

Steam’s platform data marks Mac and Linux as unsupported. (See the Steam store's platform data for the game) The GOG listing is Windows only as well. Can you play it with friends?

No. It is single-player, and the publisher has said co-op and multiplayer are not planned. The towns you run across the map are all yours; the multiplayer page has the exact reply and what “Settlement 2” actually means.
